We are your custom Home architects
Designing and building your forever-home can be a daunting task, but we are here to guide and assist you every step of the way. When it comes to building a custom home, hiring an architect is one of the first steps you need to take. We work closely with our clients to design custom homes that are tailored to their exact needs and wants. No two clients are the same, and no two custom homes should be the same either.
Custom Home Services
Step One: Architectural Programming
If you ask the right questions, the answers become self-evident. When designing a custom home, the programming stage is when we ask a lot of questions. How many bedrooms and bathrooms do you need? One story or two? What is your budget? We will listen, take notes, and collaborate with you to create a program for your custom home that defines your unique spatial requirements and design goals.
step Two: Design
After we’ve developed the “program” for your custom home, we jump straight into design. There are two phases of design to every custom home project; the first phase is called the Schematic Design Phase, and the second phase is the Design Development Phase. In these phases we take the information gathered from the programming process and translate it into architectural and spatial designs. Preliminary floor plans, exterior elevations, and 3D modeling assist us in working with you to establish the layout, functionality, and aesthetic of your dream home.
Step Three: Construction Documents
After you are happy with the design of your home, we begin the construction documents. This phase includes preparing the architectural drawings, details, and specifications necessary for permitting and construction. In addition, we coordinate and collaborate with outside engineers and consultants to ensure all necessary elements are thoroughly planned and documented, including structural engineering, interior design, and landscape design.
Step Four: Bidding and Negotiations
When building a custom home, the Bidding and Negotiations phase can take place in one of two places, either at the start of the Architectural Programming, or after the Construction Documents are complete. Bidding and Negotiations is when we use our network of reputable builders to connect you with the perfect custom home general contractor for you. At Moment Architects, we always recommend doing this as early as possible, and the custom homes that turn out the best are almost always the ones where the architect and builder work as a team from start to finish.
Step Five: Construction Administration
This is when the fun really begins. During construction of your custom home, we will assist you through periodic site visits, coordinating with the general contractor to provide clarifications and additional information as needed, review and approve the general contractor’s applications for payments, and prepare a final punch list at completion. During this stage of the process, we are your advocate, making sure everything about your dream home is being built exactly the way you imagined it.
